The Challenge

The goal of The Michigan Lighthouse Project is to pull lighthouses out of government ownership and put them into the hands of private owners who will care for the upkeep of Michigan's historical lighthouses.

The Solution

Using data mining techniques, ActionWeb Services was able to get current and accurate information on historical lighthouses in Michigan. We gathered information from U.S. Coast Guard, Parks Services, and many other credible resources.

Using advanced mapping technology we were able to create a map of Michigan that pinpointed the location of all historical lighthouses based on their latitude and longitude (Lat Long) coordinates. The user is able to click on the Lat Long coordinate on the map (denoted by a red dot) and get a page containing detailed information on that lighthouse including: name, exact Lat Long coordinates, history, current owner, photo, year of construction, and much more.

The end result of this project is the most complete listing and detailed information on the historical lighthouses in Michigan available on the web today.
